Learn how to override any of the option defaults with your own defaults. This tutorial covers replacing them either during your theme’s activation and/or when the user clicks “Reset Options”.
In this tutorial we’ll walk through how you can register or unregister your own page layouts for use on the Theme Options page and on individual Page/Post/Category/Tag editors.
We’ll also go over how you can alter styles or conditionally fire code based on layout.
In this particular example we’re going to add an options panel for a Site-wide Alert, like the one found in the Primary Theme. These settings will allow the user to type in whatever text or HTML they want and enable it for display just beneath the header throughout their entire site.
I’m really excited to finally debut the new WPStartBox.com. It’s been a couple months in the making, but it’s finally here.
Before I get too far, though, I should tell you that it’s not quite finished. There are a few more parts that need a bit of work before I can turn them loose to the public. Sit tight, they’re coming.

At WordCamp Chicago 2011 I presented on “Developing for Success -or- Any Fool Can Do This”. The talk encompassed how I took a leap of faith and launched StartBox and all of the challenges that come with that. Details, Slides and Resources after the jump.
I am happy to report that I am shaking things up today.
StartBox 2.5.2 has been released and is available for immediate download in the members section and via automatic update within the WP Dashboard. Along with it come a couple new features, a bugfix, and several minor updates and improvements. Believe me, it’s nothing to write home about, except for one note:
